An Aesthetic Study On The Foot End Of The Ming And Qing Style Wood Basin Stand

As a part of social material products and spiritual culture,furniture is a product of general development of human society and politics,economy,culture,art,and technology.It represented the culture and art in different historical periods,different ethnic groups,and different regions.The ancient Chinese furniture is all handcrafted,and no one piece is ever the same.The rigorous thoughts and attitudes of ancient Chinese artisan is fully reflected in the design of the traditional furniture design.The combination of preciseness and artistic conception not only meet the functional requirements,but also satisfied people's spiritual pursuit.Chinese traditional furniture development reached its peak in the Ming and Qing dynasties.The colorful carving decorative patterns on the Ming and Qing Dynasties' furniture reflected the rich and colorful ethic cultural connotation,and is a source of inspiration for modern furniture design.Basin Stand is a wood craving craft which is full of artistic value.As a luxury only a wealthy and influential family can afford,it always made with exquisite workmanship.Moreover,the different styles and decorations at the foot end of the stand also presented a unique aesthetic and artistic value.Among the design of the Ming and Qing's traditional basin stand,foot end is the most characteristic part,and it is a precious wealth left by our ancestor,a vital dominator worth its name.Therefore,it is no doubt that the analysis of the horseshoe legs style of the basin stand will help the inheriting and exploiting of the traditional basin stand furniture.This paper did a mining and research in the aspects of the development background,artistic characteristics,aesthetic characteristics,style and decorative features,cultural connotation and characteristics,and inheritance and exploitation of the wood carving art of the basin stand's foot end in depth.We also summarized the aesthetic characteristics and cultural characteristics of the foot end carving of wooden basin stand and presented the key points and details of the foot end carving of wooden basin stand.On one hand,we did some supplementary and organization work for the research of the foot end craving of wooden basin stand aims for learning and understanding the manufacturing process,modeling techniques,style characteristics,and cultural connotation of the foot end craving of wooden basin stand.One the other hand,we completed the research for “the Research of Foot End Carving of Basin Stand”,provided the theoretical foundation for the heritage and development of the Chinese traditional foot end craving of basin stand,as well as provided a kind of technical support for the application of applying the traditional culture and woodcarving decoration art ideas in the modern interior design.
