Rising With Coal:the Formation And Expansion Of Jiaozuo’s Urban Space(1898-1956)

In the previous study of the history of the city,academic circles always focus on a particular historical period of the central government or local authorities in the big cities,and research on inland small and medium-sized cities is relatively weak.-Jiaozao is a typical industrial and mining city in the midland.The study of JiaoZuo city can make up for the deficiency of the urban history research in China to some extent.The research results in JiaoZuo emerged continually,most concentrated in the study of modern urban space,but there is little research on the formation and extension of JiaoZuo city space before 1956 as the research object.This paper bases on the urban space expansion of JiaoZuo from 1898 to 1956,and explores the law and characteristics of urban space expansion in this period.Before 1898,JiaoZuo was only a remote village.In 1898,JiaoZuo experienced ever-advancing changes after Company Fu settled in,and opened the door of urbanization.1898-1905 was the initial stage of urbanization.At this stage,the city spatial structure of JiaoZuo is extremely simple.The basic framework of the early urban space of JiaoZuo is formed by the company,the mine,the main street and the alleys.The period from 1906 to 1915 was the formative stage of urbanization.After the rapid development of Company Fu,commercial streets,such as the east the city street,the west of the city street and FuZhong street sprung up.The urban function was more comprehensive,and the size,shape and scale of early JiaoZuo were preliminarily formed.Between 1916 and 1925,it was a rapid development stage of urbanization.At this stage,the external contour of the city is basically formed,and the urban interior functional area is relatively obvious.The urban space begins to expand outward,and the urban area is obviously expanded.From 1926 to 1949,due to the unstable social situation at home and abroad,the development of JiaoZuo has fluctuated,but the overall trend still shows a slow development.Since 1949,the development of JiaoZuo has entered a new historical stage.From then on,JiaoZuo developed from the disordered state towards the reasonable and organized.In 1956,Jiaozuo was changed from a mining area to a provincial municipality.The area wasexpanded from 2.5 square kilometers in 1949 to 6.6 square kilometers.At this point,JiaoZuo emerged as a new city,and became an important new mining and industrial city in the northwest region.The rise of modern JiaoZuo not only impacts the traditional urban spatial distribution pattern,but also forms its own unique urban space expansion mode.In this paper,the formation and expansion of JiaoZuo city space in modern comprehensive,connecting research,combining modern of different types of urban development,analysis of JiaoZuo city types,explore JiaoZuo in the city in the process of formation and development of laws and characteristics of history,and according to the laws and characteristics of this,the paper points out the future development of JiaoZuo city.
