According to statistics, the pollutants produced by automobile exhaust have become the main source of urban air pollutants. How to alleviate urban traffic congestion and reduce the degree of air pollution has gradually become the obstacle to the sustainable development of the city.It is undeniable that the development of urban traffic can promote the flow of goods and promote social and economic growth, but it also brings very significant environmental problems, including traffic congestion, air pollution, noise pollution and greenhouse effect. In view of the experience of transportation development in developed cities,we will vigorously develop public transport system as an important measure to achieve sustainable urban development. Therefore, based on the practical experience of western developed countries, this paper analyzes the current status and process of urban traffic development in China, further studies the impact of urban traffic development on air quality,in order to establish a sustainable urban traffic model, and to build a scientific and reasonable urban public transit system to alleviate private car ownership. The air pollution problem caused by the annual rise provides a basis.China has a large population,a large population density, and a huge demand for urban transportation. The priority development of urban public transport system can not only effectively alleviate the problem of urban traffic congestion, but also can reduce the degree of air pollution, and provide conditions for promoting the sustainable development of the city.Urban public transport is a public passenger transport system, which is composed of public steam?electric?car, taxi, rail transportation and other transportation facilities. It is a social public welfare undertaking to maintain the normal operation of the city, promote the sustainable development of the city and the people's livelihood. In this paper, qualitative and quantitative analysis is used to study the impact of urban traffic on air quality. From the analysis of the present situation of urban traffic and air quality, the study shows that the urban traffic has certain influence on the air quality of the city, and the development process of the urban traffic is clearly defined. In the part of the empirical study, the panel data of urban traffic and urban air quality are selected, and the model of the impact of urban traffic on urban air quality is constructed by using panel data, and the causes of urban air quality are analyzed, and the policy suggestions are provided for the prevention and control of air pollution in the government. The main conclusions are as follows:first, the average annual concentration of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide and inhalable particulate matter(PM10)can be significantly controlled by increasing the ownership of public transport vehicles.Secondly, the effect of controlling the growth of taxis on controlling the annual average concentration of sulfur dioxide and inhalable particulate matter(PM10)was significantly lower than that of increasing public traffic.Third, the reduction of private car ownership is very effective in controlling air pollution. Finally, per capita gross domestic product and population density had no significant effect on the concentration of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide and inhalable particulate matter(PM10).
