Iron and steel manufacturing is an important industry to measure a country’s economic situation.The demand of steel is huge in china and steel smelting work needs the attention of the whole society.Arc furnace has high degree of automation and the capacity of refining compared with the traditional metal smelting equipment and it is widely used in the field of steel refining.DC arc furnace has the advantages of more stable arc,smaller voltage current fluctuation and so on compared with the traditional AC arc furnace equipment.It has been getting more and more attention in today’s society.The type,quantity and frequency of the high power and nonlinear equipment like arc furnace are rising sharply along with the process of industrialization development.The operating pressure of the power system is also growing correspondingly.Most of these devices have a high rated power and a long working cycle.They always work in harsh environment of high temperature and high pressure.The harmonic pollution during operation will not only affect the safe and stable operation of equipment but also have great harm to the operation of the power system.For the operation of the power grid system is also a great harm.Harmonics will affect bus side voltage and makes it fluctuate and distortion.This will have a serious impact on the normal operation of other terminal loads.It is an urgent issue to study the reasonable technical means and restrain harmonics and other disturbances.DC arc furnace is taken as the research object in this paper.Firstly,the development history,basic principle and technological process of arc furnace equipment are introduced.Harmonic hazard in operation of nonlinear load and the harmonic suppression techniques commonly used in industry are elaborated.Mathematical model of DC arc furnace are created using spline fitting method based on the operating parameters of DC arc furnace and the method is established in the Simulink.Then the influence of passive filter on the operation of DC arc furnace mathematical model is studied.Different types of passive filters are used to study the influence of voltage and current environment of DC arc furnace and the operation of power system network.Afterwards,the effect of APF on the harmonic suppression of DC arc furnace model are discussed from multi angle.Finally,the improvement of APF harmonic suppression scheme is proposed based on the advantages and disadvantages of APF.The models mentioned in this paper are all established on the environment of Simulink.Different types of passive filters have different effects on the mathematical model of DC arc furnace from the results of simulation experiments.APF method for suppressing DC arc furnace has both advantages and disadvantages on the effect of harmonic suppression.The improved scheme can overcome the drawbacks of traditional methods and obtain better results.
