With the emancipation and development of the productive forces,The conquest of nature by mankind has intensified, and the destruction of the environment has become arbitrary. The ensuing ecological crisis has sounded a wake-up call for mankind, and rethinking the relationship between man and nature has become an important issue in today’s society. As one of the representatives of biocentrism,Paul Warren Taylor’s reinterpretation of the relationship between man and nature has created a new path for ethical thinking. The ethical idea of biocentrism originated in Schweitzer’s awe-inspired bioethics. However, his ethical thinking about the reverence of life focuses on the experience of life’s will, appealing to belief in life, and it is inevitable that it is too abstract and imaginary.Taylor made a proper and full logical argument for the idea of biocentrism, which enabled biocentrism to be based on rational analysis. This is a valuable part of Taylor’s environmental ethics. However,Taylor’s unthoughtful understanding of the root cause of ecological crisis, the excessive promotion of natural values and the separation of human and natural relations have brought his theory into theoretical dilemma. In spite of this,in today’s ecological crisis which is a wake-up call for people,Taylor’s reflection of the relationship between man and nature and the series of ethical and moral norms he envisioned still have implications for the exploration of the development of ecological civilization. Therefore, this article uses four chapters to comment on Taylor’s environmental ethics. The content of the first three chapters is mainly on the basis of clarification of Taylor’s environmental ethics theory, and discusses the main content of Taylor’s respect for natural environmental ethics. The last chapter evaluates the theoretical value and realistic significance of Taylor’s environmental ethics thought in the view of Marxism,so we can draw lessons from the construction of ecological values in China. The first chapter introduces the research background and purpose of this article, analyzes the research status of Taylor’s environmental ethics at home and abroad, and combs the article’s research ideas, and summarizes the innovation and deficiency of this article. The second chapter mainly discusses the theoretical origin of Taylor’s environmental ethics from two aspects: background and theoretical basis.First of all,the limitation of anthropocentrism, the change of natural outlook, and the ecological crisis urgently require new ways of thinking. The ecological movement has become the realistic driving force for the generation of Taylor’s environmental ethics. The rise of environmental ethics is an example of Taylor’s environmental ethics.Generated provides academic background. The rise of environmental ethics provides Taylor’s environmental ethics with academic background.Secondly,Taylor’s environmental ethic thought is based on Schweitzer’s ethical thought of fearing life,Leopold’s earth ethics thought, and Singer’s and Reagan’s animal liberating rights theory, and further considers the concept of environmental ethics which contains respect for nature. The third chapter systematically expounds the theoretical framework of Taylor’s environmental ethics.Taylor’s environmental ethics thought includes three parts: the moral attitude of respecting nature, the biocentrism view of nature, and a set of ethical standards and rules for respecting natural attitudes and beliefs. The moral attitude of respecting nature is the theoretical core of Taylor’s environmental ethics.Taylor values the intrinsic value of the individual and regards the intrinsic value of the affirmative creature as the prerequisite for respecting the natural attitude. When people hold the attitude of respecting nature, they recognize the intrinsic value of the individual creature. The biocentrism view of nature provides theoretical support for respecting the legitimacy of natural moral attitudes, and formulates a series of corresponding moral principles and norms based on this moral attitude.Taylor’s systematic and rigorous philosophical argumentation on his environmental ethics is the theoretical highlight of respecting natural environmental ethics.Chapter 4 makes a comprehensive evaluation of Taylor’s environmental ethics in the view of Marxism.Taylor’s thought of environmental ethics has important academic value and practical value, which can provide a new way for ecological values construction. However, there are still some deficiencies in his theory that are worth pondering.Objectively, both criticism and praise highlight the important position of Taylor’s environmental ethics. The last chapter concludes with a summary of the core contents of the full text, pointing out that in order to dispel the ecological crisis. We should fundamentally reverse people’s narrow anthropocentrism perspectives and re-examine the position of people in the natural world.Taylor’s environmental ethics thought gave us useful inspiration, helping us to correctly view the relationship between man and nature, and realize the harmonious development of man and nature. In a word,Taylor’s thought of environmental ethics has made a useful exploration for realizing the harmonious coexistence of man and nature. It provides a brand-new ethical perspective for solving the current ecological crisis, and has important academic value and practical value.
