Tailings Environmental Risk Assessment Techniques And Methods

Tailings pond,a place to pile up tailings of mines or other industrial residue,constituted of the exits of valley intercepted by damming or enclosures,is a dangerous source in the debris flow environment with high potential energy,which is extremely prone to causing great environmental contamination accident once accidents.At present,the practical problems with large quantity,poor quality,widespread distribution,low security,unsafe operation with a high proportion and frequent environmental accidents in tailings pond have a seriously impact on the healthy and sustainable development in Chinese mining industry.Tailings pond poses a great environmental risk on downstream rivers,farmland and residents,but the assessment system of environmental risk for tailings pond has not been established in our country.The author at the postgraduate stage participated in an environmental project,called feasibility research on liability insurance system of tailings pond environmental pollution,issued by Planning Institute in Ministry of environmental protection.This paper is to complete base on reading a large number of literature materials,field visit to 18 tailings ponds,such as Loufan tailings pond of Shanxi TISCO,Sanshan Island tailings pond of Shandong Golden Group,and Lixi tailings pond of Shaanxi Gold Jinduicheng molybdenum Group,380 questionnaires on environmental risk influencing factors,evaluation index,accident handling of tailings pond and participation in five expert seminars on selected evaluation index of tailings pond.Firstly,this paper is to analyze and research on basic situation,environmental risk assessment in construction project,environmental risks for in tailings pong in China;Secondly,it is the comparative analysis to importance of evaluation index of environmental risk tailings and applicable conditions to evaluation methodology;finally,it is to establish assessment system of environmental risk on tailings pond and conducts case studies.This thesis has the following findings:?A comprehensive evaluation index of environmental risk for tailings pond has been established.This paper is to establish the evaluation index of environmental risk through conducting case studies,accident statistics,field research,expert discussions,literature references,etc.,and conducting the analytic hierarchy process and expert scoring method to screen and assign weights on environmental risk factors on tailings pond.?A systematic evaluation methodology of environmental risk on tailings pond has been proposed.This paper is to put forward a systematic approach to environmental risk assessment applicable to tailings pond,through comparative study on fault tree analysis,Analogy Method,AHP,multiple regression analysis,comprehensive factor weighting method and other applicable methods.?A quantitative evaluation system of environmental risk on tailings pond has been established.Taken assessment procedures on project environmental risk as the main line,the thesis is to build a quantitative and systematic evaluation system of environmental risk for tailings pond,combining with the evaluation index and methodology of environmental risk on tailings pond.
