Cinnamomum camphora(L.)Presl,the plant of Lauraceae and the valuable wood and economic trees,we can extract medicinal materials,such as natural camphor and perfumed oils from its roots,stems,leaves,and its fruits contain camphor tree seeds oil(more than 35%)with rich capric/lauric acids.There are many middle train triglycerides in the camphor tree seeds oil,such as capric acid(more than 56%),lauric acid(more than 38%).And a lot of literatures report that octylic acids have many healthy functions in body weight controlling,blood fat and blood sugar low,rapid energy supplying and so on.The aim of this paper is to study the physiological effect of camphor tree seeds oil in order to explore a kind of natural functional edible oil.The objective of this study is to compare the effect in camphor tree seeds oil on anti-obesity and serum lipids with other long-chain oils,and its toxicity evaluation.114 SD male rats were randomly divided into 12 groups according to weight and TC levels.They are control group(A);camphor tree seeds oil groups in low doses,middle doses and high doses(B-1,B-2,B-3);lard groups in low doses,middle doses,and high doses(C-1,C-2,C-3);soybean oil groups in low doses,middle doses,and high doses(D-1,D-2,D-3);mixed oil with more soybean oils group(E-1);mixed oil with more camphor tree seeds oils group(E-2).All the groups were taken food and water freely,but with corresponding dosage oil by gavage every day.In 0,7,13 weeks,all rats were fasted overnight to be ready for the following blood parameters detecting,total cholesterol(TC),triglyceride(TG),high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C),low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),glutamic-oxalacetic transaminase(AST),glutamic-pyruvic transaminase(ALT),total protein(TP),albumin(ALB),creatinine(Cr),blood glucose(GLU)and urea nitrogen(BUN),calculate anti-atherosclerosis index(AAI),atherosclerosis index(AI),globulin(GLB).At the end of 13w,all the rats were killed and executed the fat of abdomen to calculate the body fat rate.The hearts,livers,lungs,kidneys,testicles,epididymis,spleens,thymus,brains,etc.were weighted and then 4%neutral formalin fixed,for the pathology test.Results:1.Body weight gain and the food utility rate:the weight of all the camphor tree seeds oil groups were all lower than the same doses lard and soybean oil groups except soybean oil middle doses group,the weight of mixed oil groups were also lower than the high doses of lard and soybean oil groups;Serum lipids:compared with lard and soybean oil,taken in camphor tree seeds oil in low does and middle doses,including mixed oil all have good effects in decreasing TG level,increasing HDL-C level;Arteriosclerosis indices:the camphor tree seeds oil had a good aspect in AI index;Body fat rate:every group that had camphor tree seeds oil was lower than other oil groups in body fat rate.Compared with LCT,especially lard,moderate camphor tree seeds oil can reduce body weight and body fat.Compared with LCT,taken in moderate camphor tree seeds oil have good effects in decreasing TG level,increasing HDL-C level,reducing the danger in arteriosclerosis,but there was no dose-response relationship.2.Compared with control group,in sub-chronic toxicity assessment:B-1 group and B-2 group had no differences,B-3 group had significant differences in all biochemical indices;the ratio of organs to body weight:the low doses and middle doses group had no differences except the ratio of liver to body weight,but the high doses group had statistically differences in all indices;in Hepatic pathological changes of camphor tree seeds oil:B-1 group and B-2 group had no obvious differences;B-3 group had more focal necrosis than A group,and had one rat with chronic focal myocarditis,one with light chronic epicardial inflammation.The doses of camphor tree seeds oil in 2.7g/kg,5.4g/kg had no side-effects,but the doses of camphor tree seeds oil in 10.8g/kg caused dyspepsia,diarrhea,anomaly biochemistry indices,but there was no significant toxic effect in pathology.
