With the development of the times, the driving role of tourism in economic growth has become increasingly prominent. On this basis,China proposes to build tourism into a pillar industry of the national economy, which affirms the important position of tourism. The Pearl River Delta region is rich in tourism resources, with rapid development of tourism and rapid economic growth. However, many problems have also been exposed in the development of tourism, such as confusion of management, low efficiency of input and output of tourism resources, uneven level of information technology and so on,which seriously restrict the development of tourism in the Pearl River Delta region. Therefore,it is an urgent problem to explore the regional and temporal differences of tourism efficiency and propose ways to improve tourism efficiency according to local conditions. This paper chooses the tourism data of the Pearl River Delta from 2002 to 2016,uses DEA-Malmquist model to analyze the tourism efficiency of the region from the point of time and period, and chooses coefficient of variation,Herfindahl index and systematic classification to explore the spatial and temporal differences among the cities in the region. This study constructs the DEA model under the condition of variable scale, and compares and analyses the tourism efficiency of each city from the point of time and time. The results are as follows: during the inspection period, the comprehensive efficiency, pure technical efficiency and scale efficiency of most cities all perform well, while only a few cities are ineffective. The overall efficiency of tourism in the Pearl River Delta has little difference, but the relative difference is obvious. The measured efficiency values are used to analyze the spatial and temporal differences. The results show that Guangzhou,Jiangmen,Dongguan and Zhaoqing have been in high value areas for a long time, while Huizhou has been in low value areas for a long time. There is an obvious "poverty trap" phenomenon in the tourism efficiency of the Pearl River Delta. The last part of the paper also puts forward the shortcomings and prospects of this paper, and lists the methods and suggestions to optimize the efficiency of tourism in this area, which provides an objective basis for the improvement of tourism efficiency.
