| Surface states are a special kind of states,which are confined at the interface between two different media.The most famous of surface states are Surface plasmon polaritons(SPPs)and Tamm plasmonpolaritons(TPPs).In contrast to SPPs,because the dispersion of TPPs is within the light cone,TPPs can be excited by both TE and TM polarized light without any dispersion-matching devices,which simplify the realization of TPP-based structures.TPPs have attracted attention in the design of micronano optical devices.In this thesis,the modal characteristics of TPPs at the interface of a metal and a photonic crystal are investigated.The main research includes:First,the modal characteristics of TPPs in planar metal-photonic crystal structure are studied.TPPs in three planar structures are investigated with transfer matrix method and finite element method.At 1550 nm,the modal characteristics of TPPs under different polarization states in three structures are better than SPPs.The propagation distance of TPPs in multilayer metal-dielectric structures can reach 1280μm and the figure of merit can reach 3790.The propagation distance of TPPs in ridge metal-photonic crystal structure can reach 1180μm and the figure of merit can reach 2960.For the strip metal-plane multilayer structure,the modal characteristics of different orders of TPPs is discussed,and it is found that the transmission loss of the fundamental mode is lower than that of the higher order mode.Secondly,the modal characteristics of TPPs in cylindrical metal-photonic crystal waveguides are studied.Two structures are designed.The results show that TPPs can be excited under different polarization states in both structures.For the cylindrical metal-photonic crystal waveguide with a metal core,when the metal radius is small,the propagation distance of TPPs in different polarization states is much longer than that of SPPs.The propagation distance of TPPs under radial polarized light can reach 3152μm,while the transmission distance of TPPs under rotating polarized light can reach 1276μm.For the cylindrical metal-photonic crystal waveguides with metal cladding,the propagation distance of TPPs under radial polarized light is 123μm,and the propagation distance of TPPs under rotational polarized light is 65μm. |
