Sustainable development is a comprehensive study that runs through society, economy and environment. The Chinese government has been actively promoting sustainable development at all levels.Research has prove that night-time light is closely related to the three levels of measuring regional sustainable development:society, economy and environment. From the current research point of view, the use of DMSP/OLS night-time light imagery to carry out spatial and temporal modeling analysis of sustainable development indicators is a relatively new research idea.Based on DMSP/OLS night-time light imagery, this paper selects 31 sustainable development indicators covering three levels of society, economy and environment and take six provinces in Central China as the research area. The sustainable development capacity of six provinces in Central China is evaluated, the trend of sustainable development is analyzed,a spatiotemporal model of DMSP/OLS night-time light imagery and six provinces in Central China is established and the relationship between the brightness of night-time light and several indicators of sustainable development is established. The research methods of this paper are as follows:1)principal component analysis is used to reduce the dimension of sustainable development indicators and then the comprehensive indicators are obtained;2)Mann Kendall method is used to analyze the trend between sustainable development comprehensive indicators and DMSP/OLS night-time light;3)random forest regression is used to analyze the correlation between sustainable development comprehensive indicators and DMSP/OLS night-time light;4)geographically and temporally weighted regression(GTWR)model is used to model and analyze the correlation between sustainable development comprehensive indicators and DMSP/OLS night-time light in spatiotemporal level. The results show that:1)from 2003 to 2013,the night-time light and sustainable development indicators of six provinces in the central region showed a stable growth trend;2)there is a certain correlation between night-time light data and sustainable development indicators;3)night-time light data has a certain interpretation for sustainable development data, and there are differences in the interpretation of sustainable development data from six different provinces;4)the night-time light data can replace the traditional sustainable development index data as an effective comprehensive index to evaluate the sustainable development.
