The topic of "scientific explanation"is very important in philosophy. The aim of the theory of scientific explanation is to show the structure of scientific explanations. One of the most successful theory of this topic is the "unification model" presented by Philip Kitcher. There is a asymmetry structure in an scientific explanation which causes much trouble to the theories of scientific explanation.I aim to prove that the"unification model"can solve "the problem of asymmetry".In fact,in all "the problem of asymmetry" cases, unexplanatory derivations' argument patterns are not the most unified. The work are divided to 2 parts. In the first part:Kitcher made his argument to solve this problem in the case of"tower and shadow":In this cases, the argument pattern of the unexplanatory derivations is not the most unified, because it can't be used to derive as much as conclusions than "origin and development pattern".Assuming there is a derivation which uses "shadow-dispositional pattern" is useless, because this pattern is not existed. But this project was refuted by Barnes, because in his argument,Kitcher use an condition(an argument pattern must contain no unprojectible predicates)and Kitcher don't give any reasons for this condition. The first work I did here is to give sufficient reasons for this condition by using Quine's theory about projectible predicates:this condition can avoid regarding patterns which using different kinds of properties as one pattern,"shadow-dispositional" is not a kind of properties. In the second part:Barnes concluded that though the Unification Model can explain the case of "tower and shadow",Kitcher still can't solve "the problem of asymmetry".He gave 3 examples which represents "the problem of asymmetry"and proved that there are unexplanatory derivations which use the most unified argument patterns:"temporally symmetric closed systems","temporally asymmetric open systems"and"a paleontological example".So the Unification Model can't characterize these derivations.Jones gave an refutation to Barnes, proved that argument patterns in Barnes' derivations are not the most unified and gave the most unified argument patterns in these cases. But his projection for "temporally asymmetric open systems"violate Barnes' condition:"In this case,we can only use information within this system to derive".But I concluded this condition is null, because we are not doing a scientific research.I also analyzed Jones' argument of "the paleontological example"and pointed that we have access to Jones' partial explanation.I also concluded that Jones' refutation to Barnes' case of "closed system"is fail, because "Newtonian Predictive pattern" was not belongs to "origin and development pattern".And I give a new argument to resolve Barnes' case:there are a "Newtonian Origin Predictive pattern" which is the most unified,so Barnes' derivations are not explanations. So,all the points against Kitcher refuted, the Unification Model can solve "the problem of asymmetry".
