As an absolutely necessary energy resources in economic development, oil is an important strategic resource for the sustainable development of all countries. The South China' Sea region is rich in oil and gas resources. As the output of inland oil fields decreases, the strategic goal of"Deep Water Daqing" emerge as the times require. With the support of national policy and fund, the development scale of the South China Sea deep-sea oil field will also reach a new level. The South China Sea is located in the Pacific Northwest, where tropical cyclones are most active.Tropical cyclones that are active in this area often have a serious impact on the deep-sea oil exploration industry. In the annual typhoon season, the oil field operation area in the South China Sea needs a lot of man power and material resources to avoid the typhoon. As an absolutely necessary part of deep-sea oil extraction industry, floating production storage and offloading(FPSO)has important strategic significance for national economic development. Therefore, analyzing the temporal and spatial distribution characteristics of tropical cyclones in the South China Sea and studying the typhoon avoidance measures for FPSO in the South China Sea have great practical significance for ensuring the safe operation of deep-sea oil fields.Based on the above background, this paper launched a study on GIS-based typhoon avoidance route planning to FPSO in the South China Sea.In this paper, through statistical analysis and track classification of historical tropical cyclones, based on the status of FPSO in the South China Sea,divided the FPSO safe area under various tropical cyclones in the South China Sea with line density analysis method, this paper proposed a plan for FPSO's typhoon avoidance route planning to provide auxiliary decision support for the typhoon avoidance of FPSO in the South China Sea.The main contents of the study on the typhoon avoidance route planning to FPSO in the South China Sea are as follows:1)established database of tropical cyclones in the South China Sea;2)statistical analysis of tropical cyclone data from 1949 to 2018 in the South China Sea;3)statistical analysis of tropical cyclone data from 1949 to 2018 in FPSO warning area in the South China Sea;4)classified the track of tropical cyclones in the South China Sea based on K-means clustering algorithm;5)divided the FPSO safe area under various tropical cyclones in the South China Sea;6)discussed the typhoon avoidance route planning to FPSO in the South China Sea facing different track class tropical cyclones. The safe areas for FPSO in the South China Sea are mainly distributed in the south sea area of 12°N and the east sea area of 129.5°E.For the first, second and fourth kind tropical cyclones,FPSO in the South China Sea should sail south into the southern safe area. For the third and fifth kind tropical cyclones,FPSO in the South China Sea should select the southern safe area or the eastern safe area according to the source of the tropical cyclone.
