The study area is located in the northern part of the Turpan-Hami basin, belonging to the secondary tectonic belt of the Turpan-Hami basin. The plane distributions of faults are NW,NNW and EW directions. The evolution process is complicate,so it is difficult to form an identical view. This paper fully adopted the previous research results, analyzed the characteristics, distribution, forming time and evolution of structures and addressed the main controlling factors of the segmentation deformation in the study area.Based on the theories and concepts of quantitatively structural analysis of basin and balanced cross section technology and combined with seismic data of Taipei piedmont, this paper studied the evolution processes of cross sections, and analyzed their structures and evolutionary characteristics.Sand box models were established for typical structural sections to conduct tectonophysical modelling.Based on the models, the factors affecting the formations of typical structures were studied. These models also provided the bases for the causes of various deformations.Based on the analysis of seismic data, the deformation in the study area was dominated by compressional structures. The whole research area was characterized by "zonation in the north-south direction and segmentation in the east-west direction".In the study area, the structural deformation of the piedmont zone was strong, and the structural styles were abundant. The deformation in the southern thrust belt was relatively weak. The Jurassic coal strata plays an important role in the deformation. This area had experienced four tectonic movements, including the early Indosinian movement, the early Yanshan movement, the late Yanshan movement and the Himalayan movement. The simulation results verified the segment because of the surface spread of the detachment layer, the number of detachment layer, the thickness relationship between the detachment layer and the overlying layer.
