Due to the short pulse widths,high peak power and broadband spectrum,ultrafast lasers have been applied in wide fields such as spectroscopy,biomedical,materials processing,military and so on.Passive Q-switching and mode-locking are the main techniques to obtain ultrashort pulses due to the simple operation and low cost.As one of the key modulators for generating ultrashort pulses,saturable absorbers?SAs?has attracted much attention in current research fields.In this thesis,based on novel two dimensional?2D?materials such as black phosphorus?BP?,antimony telluride?Sb2Te3?and antimony telluride-graphene oxide?Sb2Te3-GO?as SAs,the properties of several passively Q-switched and mode-locked solid-state lasers are studied.The main works are summarized as follows:1.A black phosphorous?BP?saturable absorber was fabricated by liquid phase exfoliation and was successfully employed in different solid-state Nd-doped pulsed lasers.The properties of passively Q-switched Nd:GdYSiO and Nd:LuYAG laser with BP as the saturable absorber ware investigated for the first time,respectively.Based on as-prepared BP SA,a passively mode-locked Nd:YVO4 laser was demonstrated,corresponding to the pulse width of 5.7 ps.The results demonstrated the potential of BP in all-solid-state Q-switched lasers.2.Antimony telluride?Sb2Te3?and antimony telluride-graphene oxide?Sb2Te3-GO?SAs were fabricated by liquid phase exfoliation and characterized.A passively Q-switched Nd:GGG laser with the Sb2Te3-GO SA was demonstrated for the first time.By using Sb2Te3SA,the passively Q-switched and Q-switched mode-locked operation in Nd:LuYAG laser were also demonstrated.The above studies demonstrated that Sb2Te3 and Sb2Te3-GO were promising optical modulators in short-pulse and ultrafast lasers.3.The energy transition of Tm,Ho:GdYTaO4 crystal was analyzed and the continuous-wave?CW?laser properties were investigated systematically.Then based on grapheme as the SA,a passively Q-switched Tm,Ho:GdYTaO4 laser was realized for the first time to the best of our knowledge.It is to note that both the output spectra of CW and Q-switched operation show dual wavelength with a large wavelength interval up to 118 nm,which indicated that Tm,Ho:GdYTaO4 has great potential for generation of mid-infrared terahertz waves.
