Ichnology as a subject that studies the trace of modern and ancient biological life, has played an important role in biological habits, sedimentary environment, energy exploration and other fields. Now,the whole research of ichnology in domestic is still in the qualitative description of the concept level, relative lack of mathematical quantification.Fortunately, this phenomenon has been gradually changed at the present stage, and more and more ichnologists have begun to involve in the field of quantitative research on ichnology, making fractal geometry theory gradually applied in the field of ichnology. On the basis of the scale-invariant property of trace-making behavior and according to the newly emerging fractal topological theory, this work analyzed the fractal topological characteristics of Chondrites, and first introduced the fractal topology theory to trace science. On the other hand, based on the structural features of the remains of the remnants of the Taiyuan Formation in the southwestern North China,we propose a quantitative description of the complex trace behavior of the Zoophycos.First, the fractal topology of the Zoophycos is established. Then a fractal dimension?D?model for quantifying complex path behavior is developed and the temporal and spatial evolution trend of D is reproduced. Finally, the relationship between D and the paleo-water depth and the characteristics of the sediment was analyzed with the geochemistry test data?13C.The results show that D increases with the increase of the depth of the water, and decreases with the enhancement of the degree of substrate consistency. Moreover, this study extends the fractal dimension model of trace fossil to a complicated bioturbation calculation model from the perspective of self-affine,which provides a theoretical method for the study of quantitative classification of bioturbation and also laid the foundation for the subsequent quantitative study of bioturbation reservoir physical properties. In summary, this study reveals the mechanism-level understanding of the scale-invariant features of trace fossils and quantifies the species-level trace fossils. It is shown that the fractal dimension of the trace-making behavior can become the key parameter for the invert paleoenvironment and provides more comprehensive evidence for the retrospection of paleoenvironment and the quantitative classification of bioturbation.Through the research in this paper,it is hoped to provide guidance for the direction of digital ichnology.
