Research Of Effect Of Emotion State On The Updating Function Of Working Memory

Updating function of working memory plays a crucial role in human complex cognitive activity.As an advanced brain function,emotion influences learning,memory and decision making et al to a large extent.In recent years,the effect of emotion on working memory has been paid more and more attention.But the neurophysiological studies about emotion and updating function of working memory are still few.In this paper,we discussed the effects of positive,neutral and negative emotions on updating of working memory.Sixteen young subjects participated in the word working memory experiment,and fourteen in the spatial working memory experiment.During the experiment,International Affective Picture System(IAPS)pictures were firstly presented to evoke the participants' three emotional states,followed by the four numbers' word working memory task and four positions' spatial working memory task.Behavior performance and EEG data were recorded.The refresh ERP,the energy of EEGs and the state of brain network were analyzed.The results of word working memory task show that the updating time in positive state is significantly increased,and the amplitude of P3 is significantly lower than that in neutral state.The energy in beta band are significantly lower than that in neutral state.The complexity of brain network is lower than in neutral and negative.However no significant difference of updating time is found between negative state and neutral state.The energy in beta band is significantly lower than that in neutral state.The results of spatial working memory task show that the updating time in negative state is significantly increased than in neutral state.The energy in beta band is significantly lower than that in neutral state.However there was no significant difference found in the updating time,ERP amplitude,EEG rhythm and brain network between positive state and neutral state.These results suggested that the updating function of word working memory was disturbed by positive state.While the updating function of spatial working memory was affected by negative state.This research provided experiment support for improve the updating performance of working memory.
