Tsunami is a series of gravitational waves with long wavelength. Most of the tsunamis are caused by undersea earthquakes, which generated and transmitted in the ocean.Undersea volcano, landslide, collapse, hurricanes or seabed nuclear explosion can also induce tsunami. When the tsunami wave propagations to the shallow water of near shore, its velocity decreases sharply while the amplitude increases suddenly, then tens of meters "water wall" can be formed and the coastal area will be engulfed. To have a deepen study on the tsunami and ocean internal waves' influence on ocean exploiting, and entrusted by a Chinese scientific research institution,we have developed a set of device for tsunami and ocean internal wave simulation. This device is mainly used in marine engineering test, port engineering test, underwater engineering test and popular science education. This tsunami wave generating system uses vacuum technology. It can lift water in the wave tank connected air chamber to height position, and release the water instantly, the solitary wave can be generated by the disturbance in the wave maker. In this paper, different wave making technologies and methods have been analyzed and discussed, then the vacuum based tsunami wave generating scheme is adopted, the corresponding overall scheme and layout have been completed. We have analyzed and designed the vacuum system, the pneumatic system, the hardware and software of the electric control system of the tsunami wave generating system. Finally, numerical simulation has been done for the performance evaluation on this system. The results show that the performances of this tsunami wave generating system can meet the requirements.
