Southwestern China is one of the most important areas for global biodiversity conservation. It is also an important ecological barrier and ecologically vulnerable areas in China and one of the most sensitive areas for climate change.Under the background of global climate change, the vulnerability of this area has showed an increasing trend.According to the IPCC concept of vulnerability,we calculated the spatial distribution of ecosystem's vulnerability in southwestern China based on gross primary productivity(GPP)by whole-to-local approach. The study analyzes the spatial vulnerability of the whoe study area of southwestern China, sub area and the six typical reserve areas(include:Hoh Xil,Selincuo Wetlands,Three Parallel Rivers,Xishuangbanna,Giant Panda Sanctuaries and Dian Chi).Beside,we analyzed the relationship between environmental factors and ecosystem vulnerability, including precipitation, temperature, altitude, slope and vegetation type. The results showed that in gengeal ecosystem vulnerability in the southwestern China gradually increased from southeast to northwest, with most area within theregion being slight and mild vulnerable area(together occupied 69%of the total).Locally, the general trend of the vulnerability regional distribution in the sub area is consistent with that of the sub area in the southwestern region, but the average vulnerability of the same region is reduced. In the typical protected area the Hoh Xil,the Three Parallel Rivers of Protected Areas, and the Giant Panda Sanctuaries had higher vulnerability. The vulnerability levels of the southwestern region, the sub area, the Hoh Xil and the Giant Panda Sanctuaries decrease with the increase of the regional average temperature; The vulnerability level of the southwestern region, the Hoh Xil,the Three Parallel Rivers of Protected Areas, and the Giant Panda Sanctuaries increase with the increase of the regional average slope.Karst area in southwest and borders between farming and rangingregions in northwest Mountain ecotone of the study area and Qinghai-Tibet Plateau complex erosion ecologically vulnerable areas had higher vulnerability, being more easily affected by climate change or other disturbances. The vulnerabilities of needle-leaved forest, grassland, and shrubland were relatively higher than other vegetation types, with the potential to be more easily affected by climate change. This study establishes a simple but feasible way to assess the ecosystem's vulnerability of southwestern China to climate change and other disturbances in ecosystem scale. The aim of this study is to improve the ecosystems' ability of adapting climate change or other disturbances for the region and to provide scientific reference for decision-makers.
