In this thesis,a detailed study of the scattering characteristics of an incident Gaussian beam by a particle near a structured plane(monolayer or multilayer dielectric plane)is presented.The main contributions of the author's works are as follows:1.A description of Gaussian beam and its expansion in terms of appropriate cylindrical vector wave functions(CVWFs)are introduced,based on which the propagation characteristics of Gaussian beam through a dielectric slab are discussed.2.By expanding the scattered fields and fields within the particle in terms of spherical vector wave functions(SVWFs),the scattering characteristics of an incident Gaussian beam by a single particle are analyzed by virtue of the boundary conditions and projection method.3.Through expanding the incident Gaussian beam,reflected fields,scatterd as well as interacting fields in infinite series of appropriate CVWFs or SVWFs,the scattering characteristics of Gaussian beam illuminating a particle near a monolayer or multilayer dielectric plane are investigated by using the expansion expressions of SVWFs in terms of SVWFs,boundary conditions and projection method.Numerical results of differential scattering cross sections are provided,followed by a concise discussion.
