In the face of increasing energy consumption, the amount of oil reserves directly affects the country’s economic development and political status.Since the 1970 s,many large underground caverns of national strategic oil reserves have been built in China, but the research on capacity measurement methods of large underground caverns is still immature.Oil reserves can be divided into overground storage tanks, underground storage tanks and underground caverns.Among them, underground caverns are widely used for their advantages of low cost, low management cost, saving land and not polluting the environment. However, due to the short development time, there are not only problems in site selection and design that need to be solved, but also many problems in the measurement of underground caverns that do not exist in ground survey.Due to the limitation of the actual underground topographic conditions, the traditional total station surveying operation is inefficient, inadequate measurement accuracy, and has been greatly limited in the actual operation.Three-dimensional laser scanning technology is a new type of Surveying and mapping technology which has been developed rapidly in recent years. It is a new technology that can replicate the real scene. It has the advantages of non-contact,high precision and fast collection of point cloud data.It has been widely used in various fields. This technology not only reduces the intensity of measurement engineering, but also can scan the object completely and reconstruct the three-dimensional shape accurately without any operation on the scanned object. It improves the work efficiency and realizes the real non-contact measurement. With the maturity of laser scanning technology and its gradual application in geological exploration, laser point cloud is becoming an important basic data collection means in reconstruction work.Using three-dimensional laser scanner to measure and process analysis data, volume calculation of caverns is carried out, which solves the problems of large underground oil storage caverns such as large amount of data and complicated calculation.Based on the analysis of the characteristics of 3D point cloud data, the three-dimensional construction and volume of underground cavern are studied in this paper. The main research contents are as follows:Due to the complex structure of underground caverns, this paper designs a complete modeling pipeline for underground caverns based on the analysis of the characteristics of point cloud data and the summary of domestic and foreign research experience.Firstly,we consider the characteristics of terrestrial LiDAR data and the complexity of scanning scene and develop a target-based semi-automatic registration method to obtain complete cavern scene.Secondly,Autodesk 3D max software is used to build a true three-dimensional model, following by both texture mapping and lighting rendering technology for more realistic stereo. Finally, three groups of water curtain Caverns at a PO/AE integrated project site in China are used to verify the effectiveness of the method.
