Ultrafast laser has the characteristics of high repetition frequency,narrow pulse width,high peak power and so on,and are widely used in precision machining,medical,biological,physical,chemistry and other fields.With the rapid development of high power semiconductor laser diode(LD).the advantages of Yb3+ ion-doped laser crystals and ceramics in ultra fast laser output performance are rapidly highlighted.With LD as the pump source,ultrafast laser researches using different crystals and ceramics doped with Yb3+ ions as gain media has become a hot research field.Laser mode-locking technology is currently the main way to obtain ultrafast laser.Among them,the semiconductor saturable absorber mirror(SESAM)has become a common mode-locked device for obtaining ultrafast laser due to its flexible design,easy self-starting and stable system,and so on.In this paper,SESAM is used as a mode-locking component to systematically study the ultrafast laser characteristics of Yb3+ ion-doped silicate crystals Yb:GYSO,Yb:YSO and garnet structure Yb:YAG ceramic,Yb:CaGdAlO4 crystal;in order to expand the effective way to produce high-performance solid ultrafast laser in the near infraredThe main research contents are as follows:1.Firstly,the characteristics,application fields and development history of solid ultrafast laser were summarized;the principles of common active and passive mode-locking technology were described in detail;in particular,the physical mechanism of SESAM mode-locking technology was systematically introduced Secondly,the stable mode-locked laser cavity structure was designed,and the dispersion compensation technology commonly used in ultrafast laser was introduced.Finally,the common advantages and differences between Yb3+ ions-doped laser ceramics and crystals were summarized and analyzed.2.Using SESAM as the mode-locked component,the study on the ultrafast laser characteristics of Yb3+ ion-doped silicate crystals Yb:GYSO and Yb:YSO were compared,and the non-linear effect of Yb:GYSO and Yb:YSO crystals under soliton mode-locking operation was analyzed.3.Using SESAM as the mode-locked component,the ultrafast laser characteristics of Yb3+ ion-doped garnet structure Yb:YAG ceramic and Yb CaGdAlO4 crystal were studied respectively.
