Daurian ground squirrels(Spermophilus dauricus)are typical lipid-storing hibernating animals, they will accumulate a large amount of fat before hibernation. We call this stage "natural fattening".As for people, obesity may lead to metabolic diseases,n winter, daurian ground squirrels will go into hibernation.During hibernation, fat accumulated during fattening is consumed to maintain the body's metabolic level.Since daurian ground squirrels have experienced a sharp rise and fall in body fat,Therefore,in order to explore the health status of daurian ground squirrels at different stages of its annual cycle, this study took mature male daurian ground squirrels as the research object. They were divided into five groups according to body weight and duration of hibernation:initial fattening group(I-F),the finishing fattening group(F-F),the early hibernation group(E-H),the late hibernation group(L-H),and the arouse group(A).Through testing Serum triglycerides,cholesterol,high-density lipoprotein,low-density lipoprotein, tumor necrosis factor(TNF-alpha),serum blood glucose, liver function and kidney function, and liver triglycerides and cholesterol content, the following results and conclusions:1.The body weight and body fat of the daurian ground squirrels during the fattening stage were significantly higher than those at the initial fattening stage, and the body weight increased sharply, with an increase of about 50%,suggesting that the change of body weight in daurian ground squirrels was caused by the change of body fat.2.The hibernating blood glucose level of daurian ground squirrels was significantly lower than that of the fattening stage, and there was no significant difference between the sleep stage and the initial fattening stage. There was no significant difference between the liver function and the kidney function. Conclusion:the changes of blood glucose, liver function and kidney function are reversible.3.There was no significant difference in serum triglycerides and high-density lipoprotein levels at different stages of the annual cycle of daurian ground squirrels; There was no significant difference in cholesterol and low density lipoprotein contentbetween the sleep period and the initial fattening period. There was no significant difference in liver triglyceride cholesterol content between the sleep period and the initial fattening period, suggesting that the lipid content in the blood, liver and muscle was reversible in the annual cycle of daurian ground squirrels.4.There was no significant difference in the content of TNF-alpha in the serum of daurian ground squirrels at different stages of the annual cycle. These results suggested that the physiological regulation of TNF-alpha in daurian ground squirrels was reversible.5.The indicators related to obesity in the annual cycle of daurian ground squirrels were reversible.
