Datura stramonium L.var.tatula Torrey is a variant of the medicinal plant,D.stranmonium L.It was found that there were a kind of purple idioblasts distributing in the contex of D.var.tatula Torrey's stem, which were not appear in the origin spiece. However, the structure, development and function of these purple idioblasts are still unknown. The purpose of this study was to clarify the distribution of purple idioblasts in the vegetative organs of D.var.tatula Torrey seedings, and to summarize the distribution regular of them. The effects of light intensity and temperature on the structure and morphogenesis of these idioblasts were also investigated. The results are as follows:(1)In the vegetative organs, purple idioblasts are mainly distributed in the epidermis or the cortex of stems and leaves(including the petioles and veins of true leaves and cotyledons),while the idioblats were not observed in the roots, the underground part of D.var.tatula.It shows that the formation of purple idioblasts is highly likely to related to light intensity and temperature.(2)Compared with the control group, the color of the purple idioblasts inclusions was significantly deeper, the transparency was decreased, the gap between two idioblasts was saller, and the cells were arranged more closely, while characteristics of the idioblasts under the low light were opposite. The cross-section area, slitting length and quantity of the idioblasts were significant increase(p<0.05)under extreme high environmental conditions, which increased by 55.11%,12.93% and 56.64% respectively. However, under low light intensity, the results of the area and length were significant decrease by 27.88% and 5.69%,while the quantity was significant increase by 11.99%.It showed that the changes of light intensity had significant effects on the distribution of purple idioblasts, but there were differences among the different light intensity at the influence: high light> low light> control group.(3)There was similarity between the influence of light intensity and temperature on the morphological structures of seedlings of Datura stramonium L.var.tatula Torrey,In addition, the cross-section area, slitting length and quantity of the idioblasts were significant increase by 74.31%,18.92% and 129.12% under high etemperature, however, under low temperature, only the quantity of the idioblasts was significant increase by 14.24%,while other two indicators decreased but were not significant. It showed that the changes of temperature had significant effects on the distribution of purple idioblasts, but there were differences among the different temperature at the influence, high temperature>low temperature>control group. The effects of the two on indicate that the idioblasts may have the characteristics of resistance to strong light radiation, cold resistance and heat tolerance,Datura stramonium Linn.Varieties Purple flower Daturae evolved purple heterogenous cells to better adapt to light and temperature changes have a positive effect, which is also a variant of purple Datura Distributed in the number of far across the country Higher than the original Datura one of the anatomical reasons. The formation of purple idioblasts in Datura stramonium L.var.tatula Torrey is closely related to the changes of light intensity and temperature. The existence of this idioblast is the main reason why the quantity of the variant is much more than that of the original species. The purple idioblast makes Datura stramonium L.var.tatula Torrey has a positive effect on the adaptation of the environment to changes in drastic changes of light and temperature. Moreover, the appearance of idiblats is the cause of the purple transformation of the variant. The existence of purple idioblasts can be used as an anatomical basis for identifying the variant.
