Bioactive peptides are widely distributed in various species and play critical roles in regulating most biological processes. They are usually biologically functional through splicing and modification of the precursor protein. The length of most of the biologically active peptides is short, but the presence of disulfide bonds allows them to have a stable structure, and they usually play a role in binding to important receptors on the cell surface. Therefore, bioactive peptides have considerable application potential in the biology, industry and pharmaceutical fields. The important physiological functions of bioactive peptides have made it a hotspot in recent decades.More and more bioactive peptides have been discovered and studied, and many databases have been built to store various types of bioactive peptides, but few database involve the structure of bioactive peptides at present. In order to better study bioactive peptides,to understand the relationship of its structure and function, and further development of peptide drugs,it is necessary to construct a comprehensive bioactive peptides structure database. We constructed a comprehensive bioactive peptides structure database CBPS by collecting data from the UniProt and PDB databases.A total of 1314 bioactive peptides and corresponding 3835 experimental peptide structures were identified in the database, and they were classified into antimicrobial peptides, hormones, neuropeptides, venom peptides,cytokines/growth factors based on function. Each bioactive peptide has a detailed annotation, including organism,family,function,post-translational modification and physical and chemical properties of basic information,as well as secondary structure, tertiary structure, domain annotation and other structural information. In addition,we analyzed the structural characteristics of the bioactive peptides in the database, such as the type of disulfide bonds and whether they have cystine knot motifs. In order to better display the data,we built a database website based on the LAMP(Linux + Apache + MySQL + PHP)framework, designed a user-friendly interface and a vivid information display page. The website not only provides data browsing and query function, but also provides sequence analysis tools such as BLAST and sequence mapping and structure analysis tools, like secondary structure component search and structure comparison. These work provide a good platform for the study of bioactive peptide structures.CBPS database URL: http: //isyslab.info/CBPS.
