Nowadays,with the rapid development of science and technology,various technical artifacts appearing with human needs improve people's quality of life and change their way of life.The complexity of the organic system of technical artifacts and the uncertainty of technical consequences makes people not only enjoys the conveniences that technologies bring to them but at the same time suffer from injury that come from technical consequences.People usually ignore the service life of technical artifacts if they use them for a long time.Some technical artifacts cause many types of risks and accidents when they exceed the service life,which causes notice and philosophical reflection of human beings.In order to survive and develop,people have to use technical artifacts and pay attention to the service life of technical artifacts.What is the service life of technical artifacts on earth? Why does human ignore it? How can people solve the problems of the service life of technical artifacts effectively? These questions are exactly what this article will discuss.Firstly,this paper introduces the general situations of the research about the service life of technical artifacts both within countries and abroad.It mainly involves three aspects: the use of technical artifacts,technology risk,and the relations between technology and society.Secondly,this paper defines the service life of technical artifacts in the connotation and extension of the basis of the concept in different areas about service life,analyzes its influence factors,classifies and sorts out problems about the ignorance combining vast majority of cases,including the risk,quality and environment.This paper further explores the epistemological roots that people neglect the service life of technical artifacts from the perspectives of consumers and managers.It points out consumers in pursuit of "once and for all" consumers' attitudes,misunderstanding of the service life of technical artifacts,and the limitations experience of using technical artifacts are the reasons that consumers neglect the service life of technical artifacts,the concept of quick and easy use of technology,neglect of the organic characteristics of technical system is the reason that managers neglect the service life of technical artifacts,and the driving of excessive consumption intention and the lack of awareness of social responsibility are technologies Artificial objects of life intentional "shelter." Finally,the paper puts forward some problems that should be solved from the three aspects of knowledge popularization,technology appraisal and social management to solve the service life of technical artifacts in order to arouse people's attention on the service life issues in the process of using technical artifacts,thus help to prevent the risks caused by the service life of technical artifacts and reducing the possibility of accidents.
