Communication security is the foundation of national information security and social economic activities. The quantum cryptography communication can effectively solves the security problems of information, and it becomes one of the most important aspect for network security solutions.A key application of quantum cryptography is called “quantum key distribution”(QKD).In this thesis,we consider the QKD protocol which is implemented by Simon J.D.Phoenix,Stephen M.Barnett,Anthony Chefles, which is called the PBC00 protocol. This protocol uses three non-orthogonal quantum states as information carriers. For the purpose of preparating of the required polarization state easily and improving the stability of the protocol in the experiment,we modify the polarization state of the PBC00 protocol, and the security are calculated and compared with the semi-quantum three-state quantum key distribution protocol. It is found that the modified PBC00 protocol has better resistance to eavesdroppers. We also investigated the influence of transmission distance on the key generation rate change of the modified PBC00 protocol by using numerical simulations.Furthermore,we study the main parameters which affect the transmission distance. We consider the experiment of the PBC00 protocol,so we give the scheme to change the software and optical implementation, and the feasibility analyses of the scheme are performed. This thesis provides a certain theoretical basis for the three-state quantum key distribution protocol.
