The water conveyance system has become an important part of water resources transportation.Only its safe operation can provide reliable guarantee for industrial, agricultural and domestic water. At present, the number of pumping stations is increasing. In the process of operation, artificial misoperation or sudden power loss can easily lead to water hammer. How to ensure the stability of the pipeline and prevent the occurrence of water hammer in the process of water transportation is an important issue. On the basis of the previous research, the basic theory of water hammer is combed, the boundary conditions of the multi pump parallel system are derived systematically, and several common water hammer protection measures are briefly introduced. The related water hammer calculation is carried out on a section of south water north diversion and a water supply project in Baiyin by using the advanced Bentley hammer software.According to the engineering practice, reasonable measures are taken to ensure the safety of the units and pipelines when the water hammer occurs. The results show that, for a short pipeline system in Baiyin,a single butterfly valve can be added to reduce water hammer pressure and reverse flow rate. For a long pipeline water supply system in the south to North Water Diversion, the elevation of the envelope line can be reduced by the combination of butterfly valve, air valve and pressure well,so as to reduce the possibility of reversing of the pump.It is beneficial to optimize pipeline design and reduce the cost of pumping station project.
