The problem of icing disaster on overhead transmission lines has drawn widespread attention both at home and abroad. It continuously eroded our power system. With the continuous construction and development of UHV long distance transmission lines and the implementation of the development strategy of "West to East Power Transmission",the distribution of overhead transmission lines is becoming more and more widespread. The terrain of transmission corridors is complicated and the environment is harsh.Incured severe icing on the winter and early spring is likely to lead to increased mechanical loads on the lines and incidents of galloping,disconnection,down-tower and insulator flashover, eventually resulting in large-scale power outages and enormous economic losses to the country and its people.Although the current AC-DC ice-melting technology has been greatly developed, and has been widely used in various voltage levels of transmission line de-icing,it has disadvantages of high cost and energy consumption.while the traditional mechanical de-icing technology is facing the problems of inefficiencies, operational difficulty. Therefore, the research on icing condition monitoring early warning and deicing technology of transmission lines is one of the major topics to be solved urgently in power grid construction and development, which is of crucial significance and research value. This paper firstly introduced the harm of transmission lines icing and the research status of icing condition monitoring technology and deicing methods at home and abroad. At the same time, the characteristics, the classification, formation process and mechanism, physical properties-compression Strength and cohesion of transmission lines icing as well as the factors that affect wire icing are elaborated,so as to provide theoretical support for icing condition monitoring and ultrasonic deicing of transmission lines. Then, based on the monitoring technology such as ultrasonic distance measurement,a comprehensive scheme of on-line monitoring and early warning of icing status of transmission line is proposed. We also briefly introduced the development and application of ultrasonic wave. The mechanism of ultrasonic deicing, that is,the mechanical, cavitation and thermal effects of ultrasonic wave are studied and analyzed. The mechanical effect of ultrasonic wave is discussed in detail, which is compressive stress and shear stress on the transmission lines icing, providing theoretical support for the research of ultrasonic deicing technology of icing on transmission lines. Finally,a contact-type ultrasonic deicing method is proposed:solid model of LGJ70/10 ACSR is established by SolidWorks software, and then conducting simulation analysis of iced transmission line through ANSYS to verify whether the applied load can reach icing-broken effect. The simulation results show that the ultrasonic stress on iced coating is greater than the compressive strength and bond stress of ice, which proves the feasibility of ultrasonic deicing method for transmission line.On the basis of this,a early warning system of ice thickness monitoring and anti-icing and deicing based on ultrasonic technology is designed, the components of which are described.
