Coccolithophore is important unicellular ultrafine plankton widely spread in marine, and is one of the most advanced highest primary producers in Modern Ocean. Therefore,it is an important influence on marine ecosystem.Coccolithophore can secret biogenic calcium carbonate in the process of its life.Coccoliths contains abundant geological information and has a very important significance in paleo-ocean.In this paper we obtained the effect of magnesium ion on calcification of Coccolithophore. The Coccolithophore species pleurochrysis carterae has one of the most global distribution in the modern ocean, they are characteristics covered with calcite scale called coccolith. In marine phytoplankton groups,Coccolithophore are an essential component, which provides the similarly the organic carbon pump,(calcium)carbonate(counter))and the the organic carbon pump(biological carbon pump)globally.Coccolithophore in no bloom condition in the water may contribute 30 to 60%of calcium carbonate(particulate inorganic carbon or calcite)and the primary production can contribute 10 to 20%of total chlorophyll.Coccolithophore produce calcium carbonate(CaCO3)shells that can be sinking to the deep sea making chalk deposits and are significant for universal biogeochemical cycling of carbon and climate feedbacks,Coccolithophore compromise the base of many marine chain and are extensive extend all over the world ocean. Our results show the pic production is greater in the occurance of magnesium concentration and decrease the poc concentration. And the result of infrared spectrum spectra predict that's the magnesium change the calcification procedure of coccoliths by inducting the crystalline phase revolution from calcite to aragonite or amorphous calcium carbonate and our results shows the growth rate is totally decline when we added a high magnesium concentration in the culture medium. In this study exploitation batch incubation of the calcification Cocccolihophore pleurochrysis carterae we inspected the response of this calcification in magnesium concentration by shifting the magnesium sustain in the normal culture medium from a normal concentration to 2g,3g,and 4g.Time dependent of cell population.
