With the rapid development of the social economy and the large-scale construction of highway and water conservancy projects, the high slope is more and more, the overall stability of the slope has become the key factor for the safety control in the engineering design and construction. The slope stability analysis method mainly includes the limit equilibrium method and the numerical calculation method,in which the finite element strength reduction method is an important numerical calculation method for calculating the overall safety factor of the slope. In this paper, the Hoek-Brown strength criterion is developed by the ABAQUS user material subroutine UMAT of the large general-purpose finite element software, and the stability of rock slope is analyzed based on failure approach index. The specific contents of this paper are as follows:1.On the basis of the current research status of slope stability analysis at home and abroad, this paper introduces the failure mode of rock slope, lists various analysis methods of slope instability, sums up the strength yield criterion of rock mass, and draws the yield surface of the corresponding failure criterion.2.Based on the Hoek-Brown strength criterion, the expression of failure approach index is derived based on the concept of failure approach index.3.Based on ABAQUS user material subroutine UMAT,the Hoek-Brown criterion model is established by using Fortran language.Using the strength reduction method, and the calculation result are compared and analyzed with the result of the strength reduction method of Mohr-Coulomb criterion. The comparison results show that the two calculation results have good consistency, and the reliability of the subroutine is verified. On this basis, the failure approach index of the slope based on Hoek-Brown criterion is calculated, which provides an important reference for the determination and stability analysis of the plastic zone range of the slope.
