Dust weather is a kind of hazardous weather.It has tremendous destroy and always comes along with economy lost beyond measure for our country and people.For aviation flight,it has good and bad impacts from many different aspects with whole process.It gives some enhance for usual training and makes victory chance for battle if we utilize it reasonably,or it threats the flights safety,even the mission fulfillment.In the paper,we analyze the low visibility climate state and dust weather proportion among it with the surface observation data during 2003 to 2012 in Lanzhou.The visibility is better during May to October and worse during November to March.The low visibility is always caused by smog,dust and some kinds of precipitation.The dust weather is the main reason for the below visibility and the proportion is 21 percent,15 percent and 14 percent for below two-kilometer,two-to-four kilometer and four-to-six kilometer,respectively.During a year,the dust weather is from February to May,especially March and April and it is always related with the climate warming,surface thawing,soil loosing,vegetation shortage,bare sand soil for the upper and local zone.As for Lanzhou,the main weather types for dust weather include the north-western cold front,the northern cold front,the Mongolia low and the high level advection current.With normal weather forecast and numerical forecasts,we analyze once northwest cold front dust weather.We give a set positive service measures and promote the conductor that the flight plan should be changed and backup airports should be sure.At last,we accomplish the flight mission under the local dust weather and make sure the safety.Considering the simple method in our practice and coarse resolution of the usual numerical forecast,a fine resolution model,WRF-chem,is used to simulate the aerosol concentrate,PM 10,for the dust weather.The results shows that WRF-chem has good performance,three different resolutions and two boundary layer parameterizations all can simulate the characteristic,and only resolution promotion can not solve all the problem and PM 10 is also sensitive to boundary layer parameterizations for the complex arid area.Furthermore,the portrait of Northwest dust weather and low visibility are concluded and some suggestion about the dust weather aviation is given for our meteorology service men and pilots and conductors.The operational evaluation system has much shortcoming and it is necessary to set a comprehensive,uniform and quantitative assessment system.At the end of the paper,a concept,to set a more complicate and complete system,is prompted from the forecast and service.The former includes data use,forecast quality,mission effect,aviation forecast and warning distribution.The latter includes set of service plan,weather control standby,communication with all aspects,conduct and control for the pot service.The system can give promotion of the aviation meteorology service with complicated weather,such as dust weather.
