In the present study, the effects of cefotaxime pharmaceutical wastewater on biomarkers of Zebrafish were investigated via exposure tests compared with cefotaxime. The acute toxicity test was made to assess their toxicity preliminary. The effects of cefotaxime wastewater and cefotaxime on muscle tissue of Zebrafish about the superoxide dismutase(SOD),catalase(CAT),the enzyme glutathione(GSH),malondialdehyde(MDA)and phosphorylated histone H2AX(?-H2AX)were investigated via subacute experiment for 15 d,then the sensitive markers were screened. Finally, the biological toxic effects of cefotaxime wastewater and Cefotaxime were analysised using an integrated biomarker index(IBR)and their ecological risk level were determined. The results showed that:1)Both cefotaxime wastewater and cefotaxime were low-toxic substances to Zebrafish.2)Difference of components leaded to different impact on each index. Both of them caused oxidation stress and DNA damage to Zabrafish, however, the DNA damage was' t irreversible.Reactive oxygen species may be the most important reason of oxidative damage and DNA double bond breakage.GSH and ?-H2 AX were sensitive to cefotaxime wastewater, and SOD,CAT and ?-H2 AX were sensitive to Cefotaxime.3)The IBR of cefotaxime wastewater and cefotaxime impacting on Zebrafish showed regularity with time and concentration. The impact of Cefotaxime wastewater was at middle level(2.6<IBR<3.8)on muscle tissue of Zebrafish, and that of Cefotaxime was serious(3.0<IBR<6.6)which was most serious in 9 d,then reduced obviously compared with 3 d.The impact of Cefotaxime wastewater ? 1 mg/L Cefotaxime and 5 mg/L Cefotaxime on muscle tissue of Zebrafish had been reduced to a low level(1.0 to 2.1)in15 d,and that of 25 mg/L Cefotaxime and 125 mg/L Cefotaxime had recovered to the level of the control group. Both cefotaxime wastewater and Cefotaxime had severely effect on aquatic organisms, however, with the extension of exposure time the Zebrafish had adapted the environment gradually,so both cefotaxime wastewater and Cefotaxime had low level of ecological risk.
