Coal mining provided strong impetus to the economic development of Shanxi Province, and also brought huge damage to land resource and ecological environment in mining area, such as the destruction of the sewage to the ecological environment, the soil erosion, the ground subsidence and the destruction of the vegetation caused by coal mining. In the process of coal mining, the change of land use structure is a direct influence factor of land use landscape pattern, function and its ecological effects. Therefore,it is urgent to understand the mechanism of land use structure evolution and its ecological effect in Xuangang mining area. The Xuangang mining area was selected as study area in the study. The spatiotemporal patterns of land use structure evolution in Xuangang mining area will be analyzed with Landsat TM/OLI remotely sensed data. And the spatial and temporal characteristics of rural settlements and cropland loss will be analyzed.Research shows:(1)The optimum particle size of landscape pattern analysis is 50 m in Xuangang mining area.Because of coal mining, the landscape pattern ofXuangang mining area showed a trend of low connectivity, complexity and fragmentation from 1986 to 2006.The landscape pattern of Xuangang mining area has shown a trend of continuous, balanced and enhanced connectivity due to the implementation of the policy of returning farmland to forest, the continuous development of the land of industrial and mining and urban and rural residential areas from 2006 to 2015.The change of cultivated land and industrial and mining land is the strongest, and the degree of farmland fragmentation increases, and the shape of industrial and mining land is complicated, and the degree of polymerization of urban and rural settlements is increasing.(2)The change of different types of land use is large in Xuangang mining area. The comprehensive degree of land use is increasing, and the development of land use is good in Xuangang mining area. The box dimension of cultivated land is decreasing. The radial dimension of urban and rural residential is increasing. The dendrite dimension of industrial and mining land is increasing.(3)Over the past 30 years, the number of rural settlements, the total area and average area increase first and then decrease.Rural settlements expansion were widely distributed from 1984 to 1994.Rural settlements shrink were widely distributed from 1994 to 2015,mainly distributed in the north and south. The landscape pattern of rural settlements had remarkable interannual variability.Landscape shapes became more and more complex, and the difference of rural settlements area got bigger and bigger. The presence of land slopes, roads, and coal mining significantly influenced the distribution of ruralsettlements in XuanGang mining area.(4)The cultivated land was reduced by 2%,and the cultivated land to the construction land was widely distributed from 1986 to 1994.The cultivated land was reduced by 6.9%,and the cultivated land to industrial and mining land was was the dominant type of spatial change from 1994 to 2006.The cultivated land was reduced by 13.7% from 2006 to 2015.The spatial distribution of cultivated land to grassland was wider, but the cultivated land to industrial and mining land was was the dominant type of spatial change. The policy of grain for green, the construction of urban and rural areas and the exploitation of coal are the main influencing factors of cropland loss.Through the analysis of the change of land use in XuanGang mining area,it is known that the land use, landscape pattern and function of the mining area have been changed, and the ecological environment of the mining area is deteriorating. We can know the change of land use in XuanGang mining area from this study, and we can monitor the land use situation dynamically. It is of great significance to protect the ecological environment of the mining area and realize the sustainable utilization of land resources and the green exploitation of coal resources.
