Research On The Impact Of Technology-seeking OFDI To Quality Of Export Product

At present,China’s export trade volume is growing rapidly and it has become the world’s largest exporter,but China’s export products are still low.In order to improve the quality of export products in China,it can be realized by increasing the input of independent R&D and investing in rich developed countries with rich technical resources.Increasing independent R&D input can not improve the quality of export products in a short time.Therefore,out foreign direct investment has become an important way to improve the quality of export products.Technology-seeking OFDI is particularly important.At first,this paper analyses the characteristics of China technology seeking OFDI from four aspects of subject,location,industry,and the entry mode.The results is that China technology-seeking OFDI mainly concentrates in state-owned enterprises and in the United States,Norway,Japan and the main members of EU.Investment industry concentrates in software and information technology services,the manufacture of cars and car parts,industrial machinery and equipment,information technology equipment industry.Investment amount of cross-border mergers and acquisitions is relatively large,and greenfield investment is primarily driven Chinese technology-seeking OFDI growth.Then,this paper analyzes the characteristics of Chinese quality of export products from the industry perspective and national perspective,finding that the quality of export products in resources,low technology and high technology industry is growing on the whole,and the quality of export products is declining.And the quality of export products in resources,low technology,technology and high tech industry are increasing in turn.The trend of quality of export product in developed and developing countries is basically consistent.In different industries,the quality of export products is different in different countries.In the theoretical part,based on the heterogeneity of enterprise model with the productivity and the quality of export products,the paper adds the technology-seeking OFDI into the marginal cost and fixed cost and analyses the the mechanisms on how technology-seeking OFDI improves the quality of export product.The technology-seeking OFDI also can influence the quality of export products through four effects of sharing of R&D achievement,sharing of R&D cost,exchanging human capital,and absorbing knowledge information.On the basis of the theoretical research,this paper empirically studies whether the technology-seeking OFDI can promote the improvement of the quality of China’s export products by using panel data.The results of the empirical study show that the technology-seeking OFDI has significantly promoted the quality of China’s manufacturing export products through reverse technology spillover.Technology-seeking OFDI will significantly promote the upgrading of the quality of the export products of the high-tech industry,but it will inhibit the upgrading of the export quality of the resource and low technology industries.In addition,the impact of China’s technology-seeking OFDI on the quality of China’s export products to developed and developing countries is basically consistent with the results under the whole sample.
