| Corporate social responsibility has been widely concerned by scholars and entrepreneurs,stakeholders pay special attention to corporate social responsibility.The gender of executives’ characteristics as an interdisciplinary structure of the structure diversification and executives’ personal characteristics of corporate governance may be an important factor in the implementation of corporate social responsibility.The proportion and role of female directors have became an issues of common concern to the whole world,some countries are implementing mandatory female director quota.In the context of economic transition of China,can female directors influence the fulfillment of corporate social responsibility?And what are factors that may affect the relationship of female directors and the fulfillment of corporate social responsibility?Therefore,this paper uses a sample of Chinese listed firms that disclosed corporate social responsibility reports,empirically examines the influence of female directors on corporate social responsibility.The research shows that female directors have a significantly positive impact on corporate social responsibility.In particular,the number of female directors must achieve 3 persons at least to have a substantial impact on corporate social responsibility.Moreover,this paper also reveals that the positive association between female directors and corporate social responsibility is affected by institutional environment and organizational environment.The better the institutional environment is,the bigger the positive effect of female directors on corporate social responsibility is;The more ownership decentralizes,the bigger the positive effect of female directors on corporate social responsibility is.Above results are robust for a battery of sensitivity tests.This paper expands and enriches extant studies about female directors and corporate social responsibility. |
