Study On Water Conservancy System In Linxian County (1958-1969)

Linxian was a specific region in history to suffer drought for nine years out of ten.Linxian people had to continuously build water conservancy facilities in order to survive on this land.However,the decentralized water conservancy facilities did not solve the water shortage problem in Linxian.The arrival of the People's Commune period brought new opportunities for hydraulic engineering.Under the “water facility is the lifeline is the agriculture” call of Chairman Mao,three medium-sized reservoirs and the Red Flag Canal project were established in Linxian.This forms a water conservancy system within the scope of the entire county,and solves Linxian's water shortage problem.At the same time,the water conservancy system in Linxian is to some extent different from the Huadong,Hua'nan,Huazhong and Shanxi regions,which forms its regional distinctiveness.Combining canals,reseroirs,wells and pools is a key characteristic of the water conservancy system of Linxian.The society background in the People's Commune period provided many conveniences for the establishment of water facilities in Linxian.It also provided a good guarantee for water facility construction in terms of human,material,and financial resources from 1958 to 1969,indirectly promoting the construction of the water conservancy system of Linxian.At the same time,this also brought some risks to the water conservancy system in Linxian.However,it is still the mainstream that the goodness of the formation of water conservancy system in Linxian,which was promoted by people's commune system to the construction of water conservancy system in Linxian.Additionally,it is important to properly recognize the formation of the water conservancy system in Linxian.The People's Commune period is merely the period when the water conservancy system in Linxian was finally established.The Red Flag Canal project is also merely the most important and the final stage of Linxian's water conservancy system.
