External Institutional Pressure And Corporate Environmental Information Disclosure

Along with the rapid development of China’s economy,the environment as an critical aspect of humanity survival and sustainable development has become more and more problematic,air pollution,water pollution and other environmental accident frequency be exposed.Faced with this kind of circumstance,people from all circles of society beyond pursuit of their own economic growth also began to strengthen their attention to the China’s environmental issues,and as the main undertaker of the various environmental problems,the companies,especially heavily polluting companies’s environmental responsibility performance of course has become the focus of attention.In general,people’s knowledge about companies’s environmental responsibility performance mainly comes from the environmental disclosure by companies on the published material.Therefore.under these circumstances,it is significant to strengthen the explore on the influencing factors of environmental information disclosure in companies,especially heavily polluting companies.From the point of influencing factors of environmental information disclosure in companies,this paper use the study sample of 481 Listed Companies from heavily polluting industries which are continue existence from 2013 to 2015 on the Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Exchange main board A.Collecting the environmental information data by the way of handwork to set up the environmental information disclosure index and measure the level of companies environmental information disclosure.Combined with the number of laws Listed Companies in the Listed area within the year and the number of internal control index data,empirically research the influence of external system pressure on the environmental information disclosure in companies,and through the method of mediating variables mainly explore the mediating effect of internal control on the relationship of the external system pressure and the environmental information disclosure in companies,which has a decisive effect on the business decision-making and daily activities.The result of investigation have shown that:(1)The external system pressure has a significant positive effect on the level of environmental information disclosure in companies.In the heavily polluting companies,the higher of external system pressure is,the more the environmental information disclosure in companies level is high.(2)There is a significant positive effect on the external system pressure and internal control level.The strength,authority and extensive influence of external system pressure can penetrate into all aspects of internal control,make a significant improve to the environmental information disclosure in companies.(3)Internal control has some mediating effect on the relationship of the external system pressure and the environmental information disclosure in companies.The effect of the external system pressure on the level of environmental information disclosure in companies,to a certain extent,will be depends on the level of internal control.Therefore,this paper based on the above conclusions put forward the following policy recommendations from the aspects of government and companies:Firstly,it is necessary for government departments to improve the relevant legal system,through the ways of strengthen the external system’s supervision to ensure that there is a policy guidance to the enterprise’s internal control and environmental information disclosure,government departments should also try to further improve the scientific and effective of laws and regulations,urging companies enhance the quality of the environmental information disclosure by issuing an independent environmental report;Secondly,it is duty for companies to reinforce the construction of internal control system,supervise it’s effective carry out,enhance the improve of internal control level;Government departments and companies should also pay close attention to the mediating effect of internal control on the relationship of the external system pressure and the environmental information disclosure in companies,ensure take a notice to this mediating effect when Policy make policy and company’s internal control system construction,So that the policy and system will be more efficient and reasonable.
