In recent years, the national economy has maintained developing well, while Chinese dairy industry is also developing rapidly. The data from the relevant departments shows that in 2014 the milk production in China reached more than 37 million tons, increasing by 5.5 percentage points compared with the production of 2013,which is unprecedented. As the dairy industry in China developed quickly, however,it has encountered a series of problems, which make it imperative to shift quantity-oriented strategy to the improvement of its quality efficiency.Under such circumstances, the main parts of this thesis focus on the research of total factor productivity of Chinese dairy industry to calculate its actual total factor productivity, using DTA(data envelopment analysis),together with input and output of the milk produced in China, and involving its production growth mode. Then in order to analyze the source of its total factor productivity growth, the author divided it into technical progress and technical efficiency. Finally the author described the differences, from three different perspectives: the east, middle and west part of China, major production area and non-major production area of milk, and different provinces,of total factor productivity across various regions and it's astringency. The conclusions of this thesis are as followed: 1.The total factor productivity of Chinese dairy industry grows steady, though regional differences exist.2.Improving technical efficiency plays a vital role in the growth of its total factor productivity, yet technical progress contributes in a limited degree. The improvement of total factor productivity growth mainly lies in the coordination of both technical efficiency and technical progress.3.The total factor productivity across provincial areas shows no evident trends of astringency, yet data of such productivity from the east, middle and west part of China do indicate its astringency.
