Influencing Mechanism And Effect Of Import Diversification On China's Total Factor Productivity

With the continuous improvement of China's international status,people pay increasing attention to the benefits bringing from international trade.This dissertation takes import diversification as the research perspective,analyzing the influence mechanism and effect of import diversification on China's total factor productivity(TFP).First of all,this dissertation summarizes the related literature of gains from import diversification and the impact of import diversification on TFP.Next,this paper summarizes the change feature of China's import trade in recent years.It summarizes and analyzes the development trend of China's import trade,the change in the variety of imported products,the change in the production stage of the imported product,and sources of imported products.Meanwhile,this dissertation analyzes the growth rate of TFP and the changes of its contribution to economic from the national and industrial perspective.Then,it analyzes the influencing mechanism that the impact of import diversification on the TFP by combination of theory and practice.Last but not least,this dissertation sets up a multiple linear regression model to demonstration examine the impact of import diversification on TFP.Through all above analysis and summary,the author have reached the following conclusions: Firstly,China has been the world's second largest importer,the volume of China's imports trade is growing steadily.And the scale of import has been expanding.Meanwhile,varieties of imported products in China is increasing,and the scope of the source is expanding.What's more,China has established a friendly business relationship with more and more countries.From the view of the production stage of the imported product,China still attaches much importance to production.While,the structure of merchandise trade and terms of trade have been improved.The pace of China's TFP growth is slow down,but the level of TFP still shows an upward trend.From the industrial perspective,the growth rate of the secondary industry is the highest,followed by the primary industry and the tertiary industry is the slowest.Secondly,import diversification can influence the TFP of the importing country through a variety of mechanisms,including productivity effects,competition effect,technology spillover effect and imitation effect etc.All of these mechanisms can promote the level of TFP.At last,through quantitative analysis,it demonstrates that increased level of import diversification produces an obvious positive effect on TFP.
