Foreign Direct Investment,Technology Spillover,and The Global Value Chain To Upgrade

For the better development in the tide of global economic integration,developing countries increasingly attaches great importance to the problem of status in the international division of Labour,actively seek the position in global value chain upgrade.The technological revolution of information technology makes the world become no longer so far,more and more countries and regions is gradually integrated into the world economic pattern,the form and enrich the value of global value chain and even the global network.In the global value chain,the relationship between developing countries and developed countries is very delicate,on the one hand,the two sides to promote the formation of the trade cooperation and exchanges,resources can be more effective configuration,the development of the economy can get better and healthier.On the other hand,the contradiction and collision between the two is exist everywhere,there is no doubt that in this competition,developing countries due to lack of initiative and at a disadvantage,economic development has been suppressed for a long time,developing countries begin to pay attention to improve their position in the international division of labor,more and more scholars began to study the problem of global value chain upgrade.China’s manufacturing industry in the global value chain is ahead by developed countries for a long time in a lower position,which is not beneficial to the healthy operation of manufacturing industry in our country and even the entire national economy sustainable development.Reform and opening makes our country more deeply into the global value chain,we show the concept of "market for technology",to attract foreign direct investment also is considered to improve the industrial division of labor in the value chain position,obtain an important means of global value chain upgrade.Foreign direct investment to domestic,through the use of foreign capital in the economic activities of technology spillover effect,the domestic industry to obtain technical improvement to promote the development and innovation of the industry,and further to realize in the global value chain upgrade,improvement in the structure of the international economic environment and status.FDI,the author of this paper on the promotion of the position of China’s manufacturing industry value chain analysis,the full text is divided into five parts.The first part is the introduction,first introduced in this paper,the research background and significance,then introduces the research methods and thesis framework,finally the innovations and deficiencies are pointed out;The second part is the theory and literature review part,combed the FDI technology spillover effect and GVC theory related research two branch lines,the first branch lines include the FDI technology spillover theory source and open study two parts,the second branch lines in mainstream combed the GVC theory after the GVC theory of further research are discussed in this article,in the final combined with development trend of the second part,to the back of the theoretical analysis and empirical research provides a reference and reference.The third part is the theory analysis and research were reviewed,based on the analysis of the predecessors’ research,technology spillover as the breakthrough point,set up a bridge between foreign direct investment and the global value chain upgrade,and connecting with the intermediary effect hypothesis is put forward.Is adopted in this paper,the fourth part is the empirical study design of the industry level panel data,first to do the unified standards,the classification of different data sources and then select industry in 1999-2014 panel data in China as the research object,to measure of revealed comparative advantage index,after the measure of China’s manufacturing industry in the position in global value chain,the measure of FDI technology spillover benefits at the same time,the final validation of the third part puts forward the research hypothesis and model building a mediation effect on FDI technology spillover benefits to promote to upgrade the manufacturing value chain effect on empirical test and get the corresponding conclusions and enlightenment.Finally the policy Suggestions,this paper puts forward the targeted improve China’s international status,promote the global value chain upgrade manufacturing proposal.The innovation of this paper:first,the object of study,combined with the latest upgrade topic of global value chain.The research of foreign direct investment on the impact of global value chain upgrade,change to market ideas for discussion and analysis;second,the research point of view,the technology spillover as a breakthrough to build path.Foreign direct investment,technology spillover and upgrading in the global value chain framework,reveals the technology spillovers play a key role in the process of foreign direct investment;third,in the research method,construct the mediating effect model,using the industry data and the input-output tables of empirical research on China’s manufacturing level and dimensions study,improve persuasion.At the same time,this paper also has two shortcomings:first,the limitations of the data sources;second,this paper has not yet been a further refinement of the intermediary model and level of research.
