Environmental problems gradually become the urgent issue confronting each country with the rapid development of economic globalization. As the emerging product in the international trade during 1990 s, environmental product trade promotes the development of global economy as well as alleviating the environmental problems over the world. In the context of burgeoning global trade in environmental products, as one of the world’s largest developing country, China should strengthen the importance attached to the EPT,actively explore the factors which will influence the EPT, and try its best to make the EPT become a new economic driving and stimulating force in China’s foreign trade. This thesis summarizes the relevant domestic and foreign literature reviews about the researches in the environmental product trade, discusses the fundamental theories, and identifies the connotation of EPT and the origin and progress of negotiations of trade liberalization in environmental products as well. Based on the environmental product list made by both APEC and OECD, the thesis has further discussion on the general trade scale, export structure characteristics and market distribution of China’s environmental products by selecting the relevant trade data from 2003 to 2013. At the same time, the trade competitiveness index has been applied into the specific analysis of the competiveness of the domestic environmental products. The main factors affecting the export of environmental products based on the Constant Market Share Model has been empirically analyzed. The empirical study results demonstrate as follows: enhancing the overall competitiveness of environmental goods is the most crucial source of exports growth for environmental goods, while the structural effect and cross effect do not contribute much to the export trade growth. Based on the empirical analysis, it’s suggested that China should formulate and implement new foreign trade development strategy on environmental products as soon as possible, actively adjust the original unreasonable product structure and market structure, and further enhance the competitiveness of environmental product export.
