The Policies of the Party in the Third Plenary Session of the 18 th Central Committee of the Communist were proposed to boost community banking and banking innovation. With development of Interest Rate Liberalization and Internet Finance, traditional bank business models that depend on corporate banking and interest spreads of deposit and loan are becoming more and more difficult to create profits, so banks should change traditional business strategies to open up new profit points. As a result, community banking is playing an important role in financial innovation, overturns extensive retail model of banks and improves market competition of banking.The paper quotes comparative approach and case study about Wells Fargo to provide a guide for the community bank of commercial banks in China. Firstly, the paper studies the community bank in American, study shows community banks have a better business performance and social benefits compared to the non-community banks, and conducts that it is very necessary for China to develop the community bank. Next, the author analyses Wells Fargo deeply, which has a great success in the operation of community bank. Thirdly, the paper analyses the business models of community banks of commercial banks in China by adopting the SWOT analysis. Finally, combined the success experience of Wells Fargo and the current situation of community banks in China, the author explores the sustainable development path of community banks. The conclusion shows that community banks in China should be improved in the perspectives of commercial bank, community bank and government.
