Slab waveguide has a wide range of applications in optical devices integration,sensor and laser.In the same time it has simple construction,small volume,easy to mass production and other advantages.However,the requirement of the optical device which focuses on the size of the waveguide devices and the improvement of performance is higher and higher,with the rapid development of science and technology.So knowing the guiding properties of waveguide and design a new waveguide with high performance and small size has extremely important significance to optical device integration and production application.In a large number of literature research and theoretical basis,this article mainly studied the existence of the guided wave patterns and characteristics in hyperbolic metamaterial slab waveguide and designed a new structure of slab waveguide based on graphene hyperbolic metamaterials plasma.Slab waveguide research is mainly based on boundary conditions and wave equation of electromagnetic wave.Through the derivation,the dielectric constant which used to represent the hyperbolic metamaterial electromagnetic response in electromagnetic wave equation can be obtained.And obtained the dispersion equation suitable for three layer planar waveguide in general situation In graphene hyperbolic metamaterials plasma slab waveguide,MATLAB software has been used to work out the key parameters in the dispersion equation of: propagation constant ?.After working out the ?,the characteristic curve of the waveguide,such as the effective refractive index,skin depth,propagation length,Figures of Merit and so on were also obtained.Through the research,it was found that the performance of this waveguide is superior to the traditional metal/dielectric multilayer film structure of hyperbolic metamaterials waveguide with the performance comparison.At the same time,the biggest advantage of this waveguide is regulated and controlled.It means that the performance of waveguide can be regulated by changing the value of the gate voltage to change material dielectric constant and this waveguide can be worked in infrared wave band.The existence of various mode guided wave in slab waveguide of hexagonal boron nitride have been studied.And the waveguide has more guided wave modes exist,after comparing with other traditional materials characteristics of guided waves.This is because the hexagonal boron nitride at different wavelengths has two types hyperbolicity(???0,???0and???0,???0).The graphic method has been used to solve the model existence in the guided wave,because this method is more intuitive and more convenient to show the propagation constant ? and show the simulation diagram of normalized power flux in guided wave mode existing,which have provided the certain basis for us in choosing the middle thickness in practical application parameters.
