Millimeter-wave oscillator is the core component in millimeter-wave radar system,and its research on phase noise is an important part of millimeter-wave circuit.Based on the phase noise formula of the oscillator,the complex quality factor(Qsc)is introduced in detail,and the design of the oscillator is analyzed again according to the complex quality factor theory.The substrate integrated waveguides(SIW)with excellent performance at different frequencies are fabricated.Compared with the traditional dielectric oscillator,the SIW oscillator based on the complex quality factor not only has excellent phase noise performance,but also has the advantages of plane integration.Experimental data show that the oscillator frequency design in the filter complex quality factor at the peak can be a good oscillator performance.In addition,the oscillator theory based on complex quality factor is extended from S-band to Ku-band,which proves the universality of complex quality factor theory in oscillator design.After introducing the theory of complex quality factor and SIW resonator,this paper designs a rectangular SIW dual-mode oscillator based on complex quality factor in X-band,and obtains good oscillator performance with the simplest SIW structure.Then,a round dual-mode SIW oscillator based on complex quality factor with complementary split-ring resonator(CSRR)is fabricated.The phase noise of the oscillator is-147.1 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz and the figurg of merit(FOM)value is 208.0dBc/Hz,better than most published planar oscillators.Finally,two oscillators based on the complex quality factor are designed using a highly selective fourth-order SIW resonator.One is the use of cross-coupled filter design oscillator,which has a good harmonic suppression,phase noise performance is good and so on;The other is a SIW oscillator operating in the Ku-band,the phase noise of oscillator is-141.3dBc/Hz at 1MHz offset frequency with the FOM of-209.2dBc,its performance is at the leading level in published planar oscillators of the same frequency band.
