The planar reflectarray antennas and the microstrip phased array antennas have been a popular issue in the field of wireless communication because of its superior performance. In general, large arrays of full-wave simulations require significant resources. Therefore, there is an urgent need for a method for efficient analysis of planar reflectarrays and microstrip phased array antennas. The first part of this thesis presents a characteristic current method for analyzing large planar reflectarrays.By using structure similarity of reflectarray elements, this method constructs a set of modes to achieve a reduction of the impedance matrix formed by the method of moment(MoM).At the same time, the interpolation method is used to accelerate the filling of the reduced-order impedance matrix elements. In the second part of this thesis,an improved characteristic current method is proposed to analyze the problem of large microstrip phased array antennas.Since microstrip phased arrays are fed by imposed excitation,it cannot get exact current when using the traditional characteristic current method.Based on this, the error compensation is introduced to enhance the accuracy, and the computational resource stays a low level. At last, the fast filling technology of impedance matrix of repetition structure and multi-level fast multipole algorithm are introduced to improve the efficiency.Simulation results are given to verify the efficiency of the proposed method using characteristic current method for solving reflectarrays and microstrip phased array antennas.
