Various types of natural disasters occur frequently in China.Landslide and mud-rock flow are two kinds of typical geological disasters,because of the most widely distribution and the most serious result.Therefore,it is necessary to detect landslide and mud-rock flow.An approach based on dark channel prior is proposed for the altitude extraction of single remote sensing image,and meanwhile we give a solution to overcome the effect of mountain shadow.The obtained altitude information can be applied to detect landslide or mud-rock flow.The following four aspects describe the main research work and results:(1)Through analyzing a large number of mountain remote sensing images,it is proved that dark channel prior is also suitable for mountain remote sensing images.Thus,dark channel prior can be used to extract mountain altitude in single mountain remote sensing image.(2)We use geographical information of mountains to analyze the distribution and features of shadows.This paper describes several general shadow detection algorithms,and introduces the idea of machine learning to detect shadows.After quantitatively and qualitatively analyzing the results of shadow detection,we choose the best algorithm.(3)The obtained altitude information is used for landslide and mud-rock flow detection.In the altitude map,the altitude around the area with suspected landslide and mud-rock flow is analyzed to judge whether there is an occurrence of landslide or mud-rock flow.(4)A new system about altitude extraction and application for single mountain remote sensing image has been developed.This system includes the altitude extraction algorithm based on dark channel prior,the altitude extraction algorithm based on shadow adjustment and mud-rock flow detection.It provides a simple and powerful tool for future research.The quantitative and qualitative analysis of a large number of mountain remote sensing images demonstrates that the proposed algorithm is effective for the extraction of the relative altitude of single mountain remote sensing image with shadows.Furthermore,the altitude information has very good performance in landslide and mud-rock flow detection.
