With the development of computer vision, video tracking technology has been greatly improved and developed. It is now widely used in the field of military and civilian fields. In order to achieve wide-field target tracking and acquire details, active vision tracking system based on the wide-angle camera and PTZ camera was designed. This system mainly includes the operating platform, target tracking, PTZ control. The work completed was as follows:Firstly, multi-feature template matching tracking is described. It used a feature template matching approach to implement pedestrian tracking. In order to speed up the search and improve the tracking accuracy, the tracking template integrate of the color histogram feature, LTP texture and gradient histogram feature.Then, in order to control the PTZ camera, the traditional PID control was studied. In order to achieve non-static error when the target has faster speed, the speed feed-forward was added into the controller; In order to solve the instability of controlled quantity caused by the PTZ camera delay, the Speed loop correction was added into the controller. The paper used state space control and predictive control to implement the Speed loop correction, the control performance was improved. In addition, to get details of the target, the strategy of focus control on the PTZ camera was designed.Finally, the software platform for the alternant between human and machines was designed. During the application initialization, it established the geometry correspondence between wide-angle camera and PTZ camera by the polynomial model. In order to meet real-time condition, multi-threading was considered. In the software platform, by using the multi-threading mechanism, it ran video acquisition, video display, serial communication, target tracking contemporarily. It used the capture card to obtain the video stream. In the serial communication part, it used the buffer mechanism to ensure the accuracy of data transmission.The active vision tracking system were experimented in video surveillance, the result showed that it had good tracking results.
