With the development of society, the strength of our country is increasing, and the standard of living is improving constantly. Some unstable factors (such as group events caused by social contradictions, terrorist attacks, and violent crimes) also increase. Armed soldiers work in the first line of duty and deal with the task which is very dangerous and heavy. To ensure the sentinels are very conscientious in the performance of their duties, the monitoring and management of the sentinels should be strengthened. It's an essential precondition for the troops to carry out the task successfully. Reports show that sleeping on duty is an important cause of an accident, and it is seriously affecting the image of the sentinel. It is very important to carry out the research of the sentinel's fatigue detectionThis thesis introduces the research background, methods of image processing, methods of face detection, human eye extraction methods and methods of fatigue detection. Among them, using MATLAB GUI to achieve the fatigue detection is the main innovation. First of all, a frame of image is captured from the real-time video, then the face is approximate located by the method of face detection based on skin color, post-treatment to the segmented binary images by morphology operation is also implemented. By multiplying the two-binary image and the original image, the face part is extracted from the original image accurately. Secondly, the image of face part is converted to binary-image; the eyes are located by using the vertical integration projection combined with the face structure. Finally, according to the definition of the human eye closure degree, the ratio of longitudinal and transverse direction of the human eye is calculated in real time, then it can be used to judge whether the sentry is in a state of fatigue.Sentinel will be constantly monitored, if identified the sentinel is sleeping, he will be alerted. The research aims to monitor the sentinel to maintain a high degree of vigilance at any time, reducing the risk of fatigue on duty.
