This research is aimed at finding a way to change the altitude of students towards physical education class(PE class),engage those who like sports in such class, help students get into the habit of exercising, build their body, and to communicate the idea of "lifelong exercising".To achieve the goals,a teaching model based on PE games was experimented and studied for nine months.Considering children's natures such as their love for play, two second-grade classesclass 10 and 11 at Airport New Town Primary School(Kong Gang Xin Cheng Xiao Xue,or ANTPS)in Yuebai District,Zhongqin,China. This research looks at how a game-based teaching method(the GBT method)influences students' motivation, altitude and physical conditions.Suggestions, based on data analysis, will also be made on how to reform primary school PE class. This research focuses on comparing the respective influences of the regular teaching method(the RT method)and the GBT method on students' learning.Previous literature on this subject was sorted up and summarized. The following research method was formulated according to the conditions of ANTPS.Two second-grade classes were chosen for the research:Class 10 as the experimental group and Class 11 as the control group. Before the experiment, questionnaires were handed out and tests were taken to collect every student' height, weight, vital capacity and their records for 50m sprint, standing long jump,sit-and-reach test, lmin rope-jumping.The results show the two classes were not distinctly different, which means the experiment is feasible.Then,5-month teaching plans were formulated for both classes, where the experimental group was taught using the GBT method while the control group was taught with the RT method. After the 5-month experiment, questionnaires were again given and students'performances tested.Data were compared using mathematic methods and comparison shows that while both classes were significantly improved in terms of motivation, altitude and physical conditions, overall, the experimental class benefited more from the experiment:more motivated, high scores for altitude, and better performances in various physical tests. The experimental group performed better all tests except sit-and-reach test, especially 50m sprint, standing long jump and lmin rope-jumping.The difference between the two groups are statistically significant(p<0.05).This research proves that the GBT method, which is in keeping with children's nature, can motivate students, improve their altitude toward PE class and help them acquire knowledge.
