Research On Speech Act Behavior Of Expert Chemistry Teachers In Classroom Teaching

Abstract/Summary:
With the advancing tide of teachers’ professional development, as the most excellent representatives of primary and secondary school teachers, expert teachers are bound become the focus of the academic attention. Classroom is the main place of education and teaching. It can also reflect the teaching characteristics of different teachers. Classroom teaching speech is the carrier of teachers’teaching thoughts. As a kind of explicit behavior, it is easy to be studied. Therefore, it is feasible and significant to study the classroom teaching speech acts of expert teachers.This dissertation focus on the classroom teaching of Qin Cai-yu, a expert teacher of Xi’an Middle School of Shaanxi Province. Use the Flanders Interaction Analysis System, it analyses the classroom teaching acts of Mr. Qin on The Structure and Property of Atom as well as The Structure and Property of Molecular in the optional module 3 in high school chemistry:Structure and Characteristics of Mater carefully. By doing this, we seek the rules of his teaching and serve the readers.This dissertation includes five chapters.The first chapter is the introduction. It describes the background of topic selection, the review of relevant domestic and foreign research (both on expert teachers and classroom teaching speech acts), the theoretical basis and the definition of related concepts.The second chapter is the summary of the research. First of all, it explains the reason for choosing the research object. Then, it combs the ideas, methods, and tool of this research.The third chapter is the presentation and analysis of statistical results. Firstly, we analyse according to the different types of classroom teaching, show all kinds of class type statistics and the verbal behavior of all samples statistical categories, carries on the longitudinal analysis, explains the expert teachers:Qin Cai-yu teaching features.The fourth chapter is the conclusion. The teaching characteristics of Mr. Qin, including his concepts towards students, the elaboration of students’ subjectivity, the relationship between teacher and students, the ratio for him to ask questions in the classroom are concluded.The fifth chapter is the inspiration and deficiency of the research. Through analysing 12 classroom teaching samples of Mr. Qin and interviewing the relative students, the following enlightenment are drawn:(1) taking an active part in different kinds of teacher training and demonstration class; (2) respecting and trusting students, establishing a harmonious relationship between teacher and students; (3) participating in the teaching and research activities,enhancing the ability of educational research; (4) paying attention to set up examples for students with both precept and practice, maintaining an optimistic attitude towards life; (5) groping in practice, forming one’s own styleof education and teaching.The inadequacies of this research are as follows:(1) due to time constraints, our samples have not covered all classroom teaching styles, so we can not achieve full-range observation on the teaching characteristics of Mr. Qin; (2) in order to avoiding affecting students as soon as, we can only choose the backward of the classroom as the observation location, so we cannot collecting much information about students’ acts.This study aims to pursue the classroom teaching speech characteristics of expert teachers, hoping to help accelerate the professional development of novice chemistry teachers, and provide some practical basis for the chemistry education.
